NATO defense chiefs convened virtually on Wednesday to devise security assurances for Ukraine as the conflict with Russia persists, according to a senior alliance official.
Italian Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, chair of NATO's Military Committee, confirmed that 32 defense chiefs participated in discussions masterminded by a US-led diplomatic initiative seeking a resolution to the conflict. The talks involved US Gen. Alexus Grynkewich, Europe’s supreme allied commander, as detailed on social platform X.
Despite US President Donald Trump's recent meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, solid progress remains elusive. Among the notable hurdles are Ukraine's calls for Western-backed military assurances to forestall future invasions.
