In a decisive move to combat online money gaming, the Lok Sabha passed the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025. The legislation aims to tackle escalating addiction, money laundering, and financial fraud associated with these online platforms.
The Bill also prohibits advertisements for such games and stops banks and financial institutions from participating in fund transfers related to gaming activities. This sweeping measure joined the legislative pipeline amid ongoing protests from opposition members.
Once it clears both Houses, violations could result in three years of imprisonment and fines up to Rs 1 crore, reflecting the government's stern stance on online gaming.
