Maharashtra's Landmark Move: First MCOCA Arrests in Drug Trafficking Case

In a landmark legal move in Maharashtra, police have made the first arrests under the amended Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), targeting a notorious drug trafficking gang.

The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Bandra unit arrested three traffickers on August 7, seizing 766 grams of Mephedrone, while two others, including the alleged ring leader, remain at large. This case marks a significant enforcement of the revised law, which now encompasses narcotics crimes.

The amendment, passed by the Maharashtra legislature, aims to tighten the noose around drug peddlers by restricting their chances of obtaining bail, reflecting the state's hardline stance against organized narcotics distribution.
