Shaping Future Leaders: IAS Assistant Secretary Programme

The Assistant Secretary programme has exposed 1,580 IAS officers to national policy-making, preparing them for administrative roles with a citizen-centric approach. The Assistant Secretary programme has successfully provided exposure to 1,580 IAS officers, with a focus on orienting them towards national objectives, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Thursday. Designed to instill a citizen-centric approach, the initiative is critical for preparing officers for their roles in administration.

Launched in 2015, the programme aims to introduce young Indian Administrative Service officers to Union-level policy-making and governance structures. Union Minister of State for Personnel, Jitendra Singh, highlighted its role in imparting a national perspective and appreciation for India's policy diversity.

This eight-week programme attaches officers as assistant secretaries in various ministries, enabling them to analyze problems and propose solutions. By involving them in ministry-level work experience, it equips them with firsthand knowledge of the Central government's operations while emphasizing innovation and collaboration.
