In a decisive move, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced restrictions on the issuance of first-time Aadhaar cards for individuals over 18 as a means to combat illegal immigration.

Starting October, adults won't receive these cards, except for Tea Tribes and SC/ST communities, which will continue for one year.

This policy aims to verify citizenship authenticity amid concerns of illegal immigration from Bangladesh, underscoring the heightened focus on border security.
