The quiet of Mauachapi village was shattered on Tuesday when a deadly clash broke out over suspected cattle smuggling, leaving a young man dead and several injured, including a smuggler and police officers. The violence erupted as villagers confronted the smugglers who attempted a robbery late Monday night.
The incident began when a group of smugglers tried to break into a furniture shop owned by Durgesh Gupta. The commotion awoke his family, prompting Deepak Gupta to rush to the scene, where he and the villagers confronted the intruders. Chaos ensued as shots were fired, and Deepak was forcibly taken by the smugglers.
Enraged, the villagers captured one smuggler and torched his vehicle. Police intervention resulted in further violence, leading to injuries on both sides. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called for a thorough investigation, while the victim's family demands justice, compensation, and accountability from the authorities.
