An Assam Civil Service officer, Nupur Borah, faces serious charges after authorities discovered her wealth to be 400 times greater than her declared income. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the necessity of legal action beyond mere job suspension or dismissal for accountability.
Searches conducted by the Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell in her residences revealed over Rs 92.50 lakh in cash and jewelry valued at nearly Rs 1.5 crore, leading to her arrest. Borah served as Circle Officer in Goraimari, Kamrup district, during the time of this investigation.
Sarma urged public vigilance against corruption, revealing Borah's long-term surveillance and illegal activities, including unauthorized land transfers. Further inquiries are underway, with other suspects also being questioned, as authorities try to root out this network of corruption.
