The Gujarat High Court on Thursday granted five days of temporary bail to rape convict Narayan Sai, allowing him a brief visit to his ailing mother.
Sai, the son of imprisoned self-proclaimed godman Asaram, requested the leave, citing that he last saw his mother in February 2021 and she is currently facing a severe heart ailment. His plea, however, faced opposition from the state and the victim's lawyer who argued there's no medical documentation validating the critical condition of Sai's mother.
Justice Ilesh Vora, considering the time Sai has already spent in incarceration, allowed the bail with strict conditions. Sai will remain under police surveillance during his leave and is permitted to stay solely at his mother's Ahmedabad residence. Post the five-day period, Sai will be escorted back to Lajpore Central Jail as directed by the court.
