A Delhi Police Sub-Inspector was apprehended by the vigilance unit after being caught accepting a Rs 15,000 bribe. The action was spurred by a complaint from Azadpur resident Tanya Sachdeva, whose husband faces several snatching charges.
Tanya alleged that the officer initially demanded a Rs 50,000 bribe to dilute cases against her husband, Harjeet Singh, and another accused, Wasim Sheikh. Audio recordings of the negotiation, which led to the reduced amount, were submitted as evidence.
During a sting operation, the officer received part of the bribe at the police station, was caught in the act by a vigilance team, and an FIR was filed under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
