India–Brazil Business Dialogue Showcases India’s Economic Growth Momentum
Marking World Food Day, the Minister underscored the agricultural prowess of both countries, calling India and Brazil “pillars of global food security.”
At the India–Brazil Business Dialogue 2025, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal highlighted India's robust economic performance, deepening trade relations, and long-term development vision. The dialogue, attended by top dignitaries including H.E. Mr. Geraldo Alckmin, Vice President of Brazil, and H.E. Mr. José Múcio Monteiro Filho, Minister of Defense, symbolized a new chapter in India–Brazil relations, emphasizing collaboration in trade, technology, agriculture, and sustainable development.
A Celebration of Shared Growth and Global Cooperation
Addressing the gathering, Shri Goyal lauded the strategic depth and cultural warmth that define India–Brazil ties. He described the participation of high-level Brazilian leaders as an affirmation of both nations' shared vision for a stronger, more balanced global partnership.
Marking World Food Day, the Minister underscored the agricultural prowess of both countries, calling India and Brazil "pillars of global food security." He emphasized opportunities for cooperation in agri-business, food processing, biofuels, and agri-technology, noting that joint ventures could strengthen global supply chains and ensure affordable, sustainable food production.
Citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shri Goyal said India–Brazil relations should be "as colourful as a carnival and as passionate as football." He also commended Brazil's inclusion of yoga and Ayurveda in its health systems, pointing out that traditional knowledge and holistic wellness can serve as new bridges of cultural and healthcare collaboration.
India's Economic Growth: The World's Fastest
Highlighting India's economic trajectory, Shri Goyal noted that India's GDP grew by 7.8% in the first quarter, reaffirming its position as the world's fastest-growing large economy for four consecutive years. He expressed confidence that India would maintain this growth momentum for the next two decades, powered by structural reforms and inclusive development.
The Minister explained that India's economic success rests on three foundational pillars:
1. Strong Macroeconomic Fundamentals
India's macroeconomic stability has been reinforced by low inflation, a resilient banking system, and record foreign exchange reserves exceeding USD 700 billion, ranking among the top five globally. These fundamentals, Shri Goyal said, give India the fiscal strength and policy space to pursue ambitious goals, attract investment, and maintain resilience amid global uncertainties.
2. World-Class Infrastructure Development
The second pillar centers on high-quality infrastructure reaching every corner of the country. The Minister emphasized that infrastructure acts as a multiplier for productivity and competitiveness, helping reduce logistics costs and improve connectivity. From highways and airports to digital networks and green energy projects, India's infrastructure revolution has been one of the hallmarks of the past decade.
Shri Goyal pointed out that initiatives such as the Gati Shakti National Master Plan and PM Gati Shakti Digital Platform are enabling better coordination between central and state agencies, accelerating project execution, and improving transparency. These projects, he said, are "laying the foundation for equitable growth, job creation, and entrepreneurship."
3. Enhancing Quality of Life
The third pillar focuses on citizen-centric reforms. Shri Goyal highlighted the Government's efforts to reduce the tax burden on the middle class and simplify the Goods and Services Tax (GST) structure. The recent GST reforms of September 22 have lowered tax rates and boosted compliance, enabling businesses to grow with fewer administrative hurdles.
He said these changes, combined with social welfare schemes, are increasing household purchasing power and ensuring that "economic growth translates into real improvements in people's lives."
IMF Endorsement and Poverty Reduction Achievements
Referring to recent remarks by IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, Shri Goyal noted that the IMF's upward revision of India's 2025 growth forecast from 6.4% to 6.6% reflects international recognition of India's policy effectiveness.
Over the last 12 years, 250 million Indians have been lifted out of poverty, the Minister said, forming a dynamic middle class that drives domestic consumption and supports long-term stability. These achievements, he added, are a result of "bold governance, targeted welfare, and digital empowerment."
India's Roadmap to 2047: A Developed Nation
Shri Goyal reiterated India's commitment to becoming a developed nation by 2047, guided by Prime Minister Modi's vision of "Viksit Bharat." He said the Government's focus on structural reforms, digital transformation, and green growth has boosted investor confidence and enhanced ease of doing business.
India, he declared, is on track to become the world's third-largest economy soon and aims to achieve a USD 30–35 trillion GDP by 2047.
Expanding Global Partnerships
The Minister also emphasized the importance of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and economic diplomacy in achieving sustainable growth. India is currently expanding trade partnerships across regions — from Europe and the UK to the Gulf, Africa, and Latin America — ensuring access to new markets and investments.
He underscored that India's cooperation with Brazil can serve as a gateway to deeper engagement with the Mercosur trade bloc and other Latin American economies, particularly in renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, digital services, and space technology.
Planting Seeds of Prosperity
Concluding his address, Shri Goyal quoted Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva: "No one can reap the fruit before planting the trees." He remarked that India has planted the seeds of long-term prosperity through sustained reforms, strategic investments, and global partnerships.
He expressed confidence that the India–Brazil partnership will continue to thrive as a symbol of shared resilience, inclusivity, and innovation — "a partnership that celebrates diversity, deepens cooperation, and delivers prosperity for both nations."
