The BJP government in Odisha has taken a significant step in response to alleged irregularities in the recruitment of sub-inspectors by recommending a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe. This move comes amid growing concerns of interstate criminal involvement, according to an official statement.
The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) revealed that Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi decided on the CBI intervention after engaging with various stakeholders to understand the breadth of the issue. The irregularities have been identified in several departments, including police, fire, and emergency services.
The crime has already resulted in the arrest of 123 individuals, predominantly aspiring candidates, as disclosed by officials. Originally, the Odisha Police Recruitment Board planned to hold exams on October 5 and 6, but these were postponed due to the scandal.
