Diplomatic Tensions: Iran Seeks Full Release of Student from French Custody
Iran welcomed the conditional release of student Mahdieh Esfandiari from a French prison, insisting her full release. Detained over anti-Israel posts, her return to Iran remains a priority. The situation also highlights two detained French citizens in Iran, potentially involved in a prisoner swap.
Iran has expressed approval for the conditional liberation of Mahdieh Esfandiari, an Iranian student held in France. Tehran's Foreign Ministry articulated that efforts will persist until Esfandiari is entirely freed and back on Iranian soil.
Esfandiari, a resident of Lyon, France, was detained earlier this year due to her alleged anti-Israel social media activities. The Iranian Foreign Ministry criticized France for what it describes as arbitrary detention, and views the conditional release as a productive step forward in diplomatic negotiations.
However, talks of a potential prisoner exchange persist, as two French citizens remain imprisoned in Iran. Their involvement in such an exchange remains unclear, despite recent convictions on espionage charges.
