The Delhi Police succeeded in capturing a long-time fugitive six years after he defied legal orders by skipping a furlough in a 2011 dacoity case, according to official sources. Sarfaraj, also known as Sonu, aged 38, was finally apprehended in the Shakur Basti area, confirmed authorities. His initial conviction stemmed from a 2011 dacoity at a tobacco shop in Saraswati Vihar.
Police reports narrated that Sarfaraj was granted a two-week furlough on August 14, 2019. However, he ignored the terms, retreating to his native Bihar and then moving to Kolkata, where he found work as a battery-rickshaw driver. He returned to Delhi in August this year and managed to reside quietly in Shakur Basti until his arrest.
The case highlights Sarfaraj's history as a habitual offender. With seven criminal cases, including house theft, burglary, robbery, and dacoity under his belt, authorities have initiated further legal proceedings against him.
