In a significant breakthrough, Maharashtra's Thane police have captured Akshay Suresh Gaikwad, also known as Babu, after he eluded law enforcement for 18 months. The arrest, confirmed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Sachin Gore, ends a prolonged manhunt for Gaikwad, who was wanted in a high-profile attempt to murder case.
Authorities revealed that Gaikwad, aged 35, became a fugitive following an attack on a man in April of the previous year in Ulhasnagar. Swift police action and a strategic operation led to his arrest, with Gore stating that a tip-off played a crucial role in the operation.
Gaikwad's criminal record is extensive, comprising more than 20 cases involving assault, extortion, and violations under the Maharashtra Police Act, according to officials. His capture is seen as a significant achievement for local law enforcement efforts.
