Russia's New Digital Iron Curtain: WhatsApp Under Siege

Russia's state communications watchdog, Roskomnadzor, announced on Friday its ongoing efforts to restrict the WhatsApp messaging service, threatening a total blockade if the app fails to meet Russian regulations, according to reports from the state-run TASS news agency.
In August, the Russian government began limiting functionalities on WhatsApp and Telegram. Both platforms, owned by foreign companies, were accused of not sharing crucial information with law enforcement agencies, which hampers investigations into fraud and terrorism cases.
This move is part of broader regulatory actions by Russia to control digital communications, raising concerns among privacy advocates and tech companies alike.
