Originally due in May, the elections were postponed due to massive flooding. The State Election Commission has decreed that 50% of the seats are reserved for women, marking a progressive step in regional representation.
The Model Code of Conduct is in force with all election formalities scheduled, including a nomination window from December 1 to December 4. State Election Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhuri has assured that necessary arrangements will ensure free and fair elections.
