A Manjeri court has sentenced Malangadan Shafeek, the nephew of former MLA P V Anvar, to life imprisonment for the murder of Muslim League worker Palliparamban Manaf. The crime, which occurred in 1995, involved a violent confrontation culminating in Manaf's death.

Additional District and Sessions Judge T V Tellus issued the life sentence for Shafeek under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and imposed a one lakh rupee fine. Should Shafeek fail to pay the fine, he will face an additional year of rigorous imprisonment.

The court further ordered compensation for Manaf's family through the Victim Compensation Scheme, with the District Legal Service Authority determining the compensation amount. Although some accused in the case have been acquitted, Manaf's family continues to seek justice in higher courts.
