Chief Justice of India, Surya Kant, has drawn attention to the major challenges faced by district courts, describing them as the frontline of justice for most citizens. His remarks came during a Bar Council of India event, where he underscored the fundamental importance of grassroots judicial efficiency.

Justice Kant highlighted the necessity of swiftness and fearlessness in delivering justice at this critical level. He posited that the independence and humaneness of district courts are vital for sustaining the efficacy of the judicial system, as they handle the majority of legal cases in India.

In support of strengthening the judiciary, he advocated for increased use of mediation, dismissing outdated views of its negative impact. Moreover, he stressed the importance of nurturing young legal talent, safeguarding and promoting them to invigorate the profession.
