In a significant transition of leadership, Praveen Kumar, Director General of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, has assumed additional responsibilities as the head of the Border Security Force. This follows the retirement of the previous Director General, Daljit Singh Chawdhary.
The formal handing over of duties took place unusually at a BSF camp in Raipur, away from the traditional setting in Delhi. This coincided with the presence of both generals for the DG-IG national police conference from November 28 to 30.
The interim appointment of Kumar, a 1993 West Bengal cadre IPS officer, comes after a directive from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. He will hold the position until the appointment of a regular successor. Meanwhile, the BSF remains a critical entity in safeguarding India's borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh.
