The Supreme Court has dismissed a plea from a man in Uttar Pradesh seeking round-the-clock protection due to alleged threats from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The legal bench, comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, questioned the link of Bishnoi's gang activities in Uttar Pradesh, historically known for operating mainly in Rajasthan and Punjab.
Despite the petitioner's assertion that the gang's reach extends beyond just these states, the court underscored that security protocols are handled by a structured committee system. The justices recommended that the petitioner pursue the matter further with the appropriate jurisdictional high court, as initial attempts through district and state channels had been rejected.
Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi is presently in custody, facing multiple accusations, yet his gang is believed to have a presence in multiple Indian states including Haryana, Delhi, and Maharashtra. The plea's rejection underscores the judiciary's emphasis on following procedural norms for security matters.
