Retired Justice Rabindranath Samanta has been appointed as the new Lokayukta of West Bengal. The decision was made at a significant meeting held in the state's secretariat, Nabanna, on Monday, according to a senior administrative official.
The announcement followed a session conducted by the Lokayukta Committee, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Interestingly, the Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, who is also part of the committee, did not attend the meeting.
Despite the absence of Suvendu Adhikari, an official invitation had been sent to his office, ensuring the adherence to protocol, the official added. The development marks an important step in West Bengal's governance framework.
