In a stark warning, the World Food Program (WFP) highlighted the impending threat of catastrophic hunger in Cameroon due to insufficient funding. Without an urgent infusion of USD 67 million, the progress in battling hunger could unravel, endangering thousands who depend on food aid.
The crisis is rooted in Cameroon's multiple challenges, including Boko Haram insurgency, a separatist uprising, refugee influxes, and climate shocks. According to the WFP, over 3.3 million people require humanitarian support, with more than 2 million internally displaced. School nutrition programs and food aid are being curtailed, hitting the vulnerable hardest.
The funding cut follows the Trump administration's reduction in foreign aid, impacting crucial programs worldwide. Gianluca Ferrera of the WFP has stressed the need for increased financial support to prevent a humanitarian backslide impacting millions.
