Mehbooba Mufti Urges Reconciliation for Dignity in Kashmir

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has called on the Indian government to reassess its policy towards Jammu and Kashmir, advocating for reconciliation to enable residents to live with dignity. She criticized the post-2019 claims of improvement in Kashmir and highlighted the discontent among locals, urging inclusive dialogue.

During a public address on Sunday, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti called for a reconsideration of the Indian government's approach towards Jammu and Kashmir. She emphasized the need for reconciliation to ensure that the people of the Union territory can live with dignity and without coercion.

Mufti criticized the claims made after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, stating that the situation on the ground contradicts the government's portrayal of normalcy. 'The replacement of stones with computers and books in youths' hands was premature,' she noted, urging key leaders to reassess the region's policy.

Following incidents of educated youth involvement in unrest, Mufti's party organized dialogues to understand prevalent challenges. She asserted the necessity for similar dialogues across the region and the nation, stressing that enforcing reconciliation tactics is essential to addressing grievances and ensuring peace.
