In a significant development, three senior officials of the Goa government have been suspended following a devastating nightclub fire that resulted in the loss of 25 lives, including tourists and staff members. This action came after revelations about their alleged roles in permitting the nightclub's operation earlier this year.
Among those suspended are Siddhi Tushar Harlankar, who served as the Director of Panchayat during the sanctioning of the nightclub, Dr. Shamila Monteiro, Member Secretary of the Goa State Pollution Control Board, and Raghuvir Bagkar, Secretary of the Village Panchayat Arpora-Nagoa. Their actions have brought significant scrutiny and criticism from the public and government officials.
The police have initiated an investigation, interrogating Roshan Redkar, the sarpanch of Arpora-Nagoa Panchayat, who played a role by issuing the trade license to the nightclub, named 'Birch by Romeo Lane', situated in Arpora.
