Jharkhand Parliamentary Affairs Minister Radhakrishna Kishore has proposed renaming the Raj Bhavan in Ranchi to Birsa Bhavan. The suggestion was made in the state Assembly, emphasizing the state government's prerogative to rename properties it owns.
This change aligns with a nationwide effort to discard colonial-era titles, following directives from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. The Raj Bhavan has already been renamed Lok Bhavan in adherence to these directives.
The proposed new names honor significant historical figures, with the Dumka Raj Bhavan suggested to be renamed Sido-Kanhu Bhawan. This represents a step towards recognizing local heritage through state property nomenclature.
