Amitabh Thakur, a former IPS officer, was taken into custody on a fraud and forgery allegation tied to a Deoria industrial plot allotment case dating back to 1999. Authorities assert that Thakur misused his influence to secure the plot for his wife using falsified documents.
He was apprehended by Shahjahanpur police in a coordinated operation, as he was en route from Lucknow to Delhi. Consequently, the plot was allegedly sold for financial gain. A formal complaint laid the groundwork for his arrest, which led to an extensive investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
Officials have gathered substantial documentary proof and witness testimonies to strengthen the case against Thakur. In his defense, Thakur maintains that he fears for his life and has requested protection from the court. He faced the judicial proceedings without a lawyer, arguing for personal safety measures while in custody.
