In a significant breakthrough, the Prayagraj unit of the Uttar Pradesh Police Special Task Force (STF) has captured Afsar Ahmed, an associate of the deceased mafia-turned-politician Atique Ahmed. Afsar, carrying a reward of Rs 50,000, was apprehended for his alleged role in a high-profile murder conspiracy, officials disclosed on Thursday.
Afsar Ahmed was arrested in Delhi's Amar Colony on Wednesday. The arrest follows a case filed in Bithri Chainpur, Bareilly, where the police had announced a reward for information leading to his capture. After his apprehension, Afsar was taken to Bareilly for legal processing before being incarcerated, according to a senior police official.
Authorities allege that Afsar facilitated a clandestine jail meeting involving shooters linked to advocate Umesh Pal's murder and Atique Ahmed's brother Ashraf. Evidence from CCTV footage and call records suggests the murder plan was devised during the unauthorized assembly. This arrest marks a pivotal development in the ongoing murder case investigation.
