In a significant action, Thane police in Maharashtra seized mephedrone valued at Rs 10.88 lakh and arrested two individuals, an official announced on Thursday.

Among the seized items was a firearm belonging to one of the arrested individuals. The police operation unfolded in the Kalyan area on December 8 after officials acted on specific inputs, recovering 108.8 grams of the drug from the residence of Akib Iqbal Bagwan. Bagwan was found in possession of a country-made pistol.

Further investigations led officers to Bharat Shatrudhan Yadav, the alleged supplier of the weapon. He was arrested, and a live cartridge was confiscated. A case has been officially registered against both suspects at Manpada police station, confirmed assistant police inspector Sunil Tarmale.
