UPSC Ensures Exam Centre Accessibility for Disabled Aspirants

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced a policy assigning exam centers of choice for candidates with benchmark disabilities, alleviating logistical challenges they face. This initiative, as explained by UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar, will prioritize accessibility and convenience by ensuring preferred exam centers for these aspirants.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has unveiled a significant policy change aimed at enhancing accessibility for candidates with benchmark disabilities during its examinations. The UPSC will now prioritize these aspirants by assigning exam centers of their choice, aligning with efforts to improve logistical ease for disabled candidates, according to an official statement released Friday.

UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar highlighted that a detailed examination of data from the past five years revealed that popular centers such as Delhi, Cuttack, and Patna often reach their capacity quickly. This scenario has historically forced candidates with disabilities to select less convenient centers. The new policy guarantees that no PwBD applicant will be denied their preferred exam venue, ensuring a more equitable examination process.

To effectively implement this initiative, the UPSC will initially utilize existing center capacities for both PwBD and non-PwBD applicants. Once full, these facilities will remain an option exclusively for PwBD candidates, with additional arrangements made to accommodate their preferences. This change is timely, as the Commission prepares for multiple administrative recruitment exams this year, including the esteemed civil services examination.
