Call for Answers: Nobel Laureate's Arrest Sparks Global Outcry
International human rights groups and the Nobel committee condemn the re-arrest of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi in Iran. Arrested after denouncing a suspicious death, Mohammadi is accused of inciting unrest. Calls for her immediate release and safety from global organizations emphasize her fragile health condition.
International human rights organizations are expressing strong disapproval following the re-arrest of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi in Iran. The Nobel committee has urged Iranian authorities to disclose her current location immediately.
Chirine Ardakani, Mohammadi's lawyer based in France, reported on X that the human rights activist was taken into custody on Friday after she questioned the suspicious death of lawyer Khosrow Alikordi during a memorial event in Mashhad. Mashhad prosecutor Hasan Hematifar confirmed that Mohammadi was among 39 individuals detained after making provocative statements that allegedly incited the crowd.
Global entities, including the European Union, are pushing for Mohammadi's release, acknowledging her fragile health. A viral video showed her defiantly chanting 'Long Live Iran' without hijab, further intensifying the calls for her freedom. Rights groups demand an investigation into Alikordi's death, which authorities attributed to a heart attack.
