The Election Commission (EC) of Bangladesh is calling for enhanced security measures for its chief, officials, and field offices, citing a surge in violence as the national election approaches. This follows the shooting of a candidate involved in last year's tumultuous 'July Uprising'.
According to reports, the EC has formally requested the Inspector General of Police to fortify security for the Chief Election Commissioner and other senior officials. The call for heightened security comes after attacks on regional election offices following the announcement of the election schedule.
The government has also initiated 'Operation Devil Hunt 2' as a precautionary measure, aimed at ensuring safety and addressing illegal arms issues, while providing firearms licenses to election candidates for personal security.
