A significant cyber fraud has emerged in a small Maharashtra village. Situated in Yavatmal district, the village, home to merely 1,500 residents, has perplexingly logged over 27,000 delayed birth registrations within three months, officials confirmed on Friday.
This alarming irregularity surfaced during a routine vigilance drive by the health department. According to a district information officer's release, the recent scrutiny followed a Maharashtra government mandate to annul illegal registrations.
An inquiry has highlighted that 27,397 of these records, linked to Shendursani gram panchayat, are dubious. The situation prompted a technical investigation by both state and national authorities under suspicions of cyber fraud.
