The chief priest of Sabarimala, Kandararu Rajeevaru, was arrested on Thursday, following his alleged involvement in a case linked to the missing gold from the temple's sanctum sanctorum, police have confirmed.
Currently held at the Thiruvananthapuram Special Sub Jail, Rajeevaru faces charges concerning the disappearance of gold from both the Sreekovil doorframe and Dwarapalaka plates. Permission for the arrest was secured from the Kollam Vigilance Court by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
With 12 individuals, including two former TDB presidents, now arrested, the ongoing investigation draws attention to the actions and decisions taken by temple authorities. The Kerala High Court has questioned the SIT's handling of the case, especially the delay in arresting K P Sankara Das.
