In a significant legal development, the Kerala government has appointed advocate B G Harindranath as the special public prosecutor to oversee legal proceedings in the Kerala High Court regarding the rape case against former Jalandhar Bishop Franco Mulakkal.
The appointment, announced by the chief minister's office, has been met with gratitude from the victim-nun, who thanked Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the media, and society for their unwavering support. The nun expressed her appreciation for societal backing through a signature collection drive, which hastened the government's response to her request.
The victim-nun, who is appealing against Mulakkal's 2022 trial court acquittal, also acknowledged the government's assistance in providing ration cards for her and the supporting nuns. Law Minister P Rajeev affirmed that the legal provisions for appointing a special prosecutor were thoroughly examined.
