The Supreme Court of India has mandated transparency in West Bengal's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with a specific focus on addressing 'logical discrepancies' in the voter lists. The court emphasized that these processes should not inconvenience voters and called for clarity in handling issues related to voters' age and parentage.

During Monday's session, a three-judge bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant urged the Election Commission to publicly list affected names at local government offices. Voters on this list, affected by discrepancies such as minor age differences with parents or variations in name spelling, must be allowed to submit documents and objections locally.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal highlighted concerns over arbitrary notices due to trivial spelling differences and age gaps. Rakesh Dwivedi, representing the poll panel, refuted allegations of misconduct, asserting that steps are being taken to ensure fair proceedings. Meanwhile, state authorities are tasked with providing necessary manpower, ensuring law and order under the direction of the Director General of Police in West Bengal.
