The Supreme Court expressed strong disapproval towards former Union minister Maneka Gandhi's remarks criticizing its orders on stray dogs, identifying her comments as contempt of court. Although the justices, led by Vikram Nath, acknowledged the gravity of her statements, they opted against initiating contempt proceedings due to the court's magnanimity.
While questioning advocate Raju Ramachandran, representing Gandhi, the court criticized her for making unfounded remarks without consideration. Notably, Justice Nath drew parallels between Gandhi and Ajmal Kasab, highlighting the seriousness of contempt compared to other offenses.
The court resumed discussions on dog sterilization inefficacies and emphasized the responsibility of dog feeders in bite cases. Judges stressed the importance of relocating stray dogs to shelters after due sterilization, reinforcing the need for compliance with its November 7, 2025, directive on stray animal management.
