A delegation from Mizoram, led by MLA Dr. K. Beichhua, met Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Dr. Jitendra Singh and submitted a memorandum highlighting key state-level issues, including proposals seeking Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) support for social development initiatives in the State.

The delegation also included Delson, State General Secretary and former member of the BJP National Minority Morcha. The memorandum outlined a project proposal prepared by the Social Amelioration Society, aimed at addressing local social and economic challenges through structured, community-level interventions.

CSR as a Catalyst for Inclusive Growth

Presenting the proposal, Dr. Beichhua emphasized the importance of supplementary support for development efforts in regions facing distinct geographical and socio-economic challenges, noting that CSR-backed initiatives can strengthen implementation capacity while promoting inclusive growth and community participation.

The proposal was recommended for consideration within the focus areas of public sector undertakings, highlighting CSR as a complementary mechanism alongside government programmes.

Minister’s Response

Dr. Jitendra Singh gave a patient hearing to the delegation and took note of the objectives and intended beneficiaries of the proposed project. He stressed the importance of well-designed, locally rooted proposals that align with established CSR guidelines.

“CSR initiatives play a constructive role in supporting development-oriented activities when implemented in accordance with laid-down frameworks,” the Minister observed.

He also reiterated the high priority accorded to the North Eastern region by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, noting that the Prime Minister has visited the Northeast, including Mizoram, nearly 80 times—a level of engagement unprecedented in comparison to previous governments.

Strengthening Centre–Northeast Engagement

The interaction reflects continued efforts by elected representatives from the Northeastern states to engage with the Union government and public sector institutions on development initiatives. It also underscores the growing role of CSR in advancing social welfare and regional development, particularly in underserved and geographically challenging regions.
