AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sunday hailed the Union Budget proposals and said it will lead to growth and several initiatives would benefit Tamil Nadu. Citing specific initiatives, Palaniswami, the Leader of Opposition, said it will benefit Tamil Nadu's textile hubs such as Tiruppur, Karur and proposals like high speed rail corridors linking Chennai will bring big change. The AIADMK top leader said proposals of a dedicated Rs 10,000 crore SME Growth Fund and the Rs 2,000 crore top up to Self-Reliant India Fund to support micro enterprises will benefit Tamil Nadu. Expanding on the infrastructure benefits, Palaniswami noted that the introduction of high-speed rail corridors, specifically the lines connecting Hyderabad-Chennai and Chennai-Bengaluru, would serve as vital growth connectors for the region. He emphasised that these corridors, along with the development of the Talcher-Ennore-Ambur waterway and new Dedicated Freight Corridors, would drastically reduce logistics costs and enhance the ease of doing business for the state's industrial sectors. Palaniswami further highlighted that the focus on ''Make in India'' and domestic production would provide a significant impetus to the manufacturing landscape in Tamil Nadu. In his detailed statement, the former CM pointed out that the Integrated Programme for the textile sector would offer much-needed modernisation support to the traditional textile belts of Coimbatore, Tiruppur, and Erode. This includes specialised incentives for technology upgradation and the establishment of common testing facilities to meet international standards. He also lauded the proposal to rejuvenate 200 legacy industrial clusters, asserting that such measures would revitalise older manufacturing units that are currently facing global competition. Addressing the technological and healthcare aspects of the budget, Palaniswami welcomed the establishment of a Rare Earth Corridor in Tamil Nadu and the creation of specialised Biomedical Parks. He noted that the Rs 10,000 crore Biopharma SHAKTI scheme would leverage the state's existing pharmaceutical prowess to foster innovation in biotechnology. Additionally, he remarked that the budget's emphasis on the livestock sector and the promotion of Ayurveda would provide a balanced boost to the rural economy and traditional health systems.
