The Supreme Court's decision to grant bail to three individuals accused of tampering with evidence in the infamous 2024 Pune Porsche accident has sparked controversy and discontent among the victims' families. The tragic incident, which occurred on May 19, 2024, resulted in the deaths of two IT professionals, Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, after a Porsche car allegedly driven by a 17-year-old under the influence, struck them fatally in Pune's Kalyani Nagar.
According to Anish's grandfather, Atmaram Awadhiya, the decision sends a dangerous message to society, implying that justice is negotiable. The family believes that fraudulent means were employed to protect the main accused, who hails from a wealthy family. This sentiment was echoed by Anish's father, Omprakash Awadhiya, who demanded that bail for the accused be revoked to uphold justice.
The accused, including Amar Santish Gaikwad, Aditya Avinash Sood, and Ashish Satish Mittal, were alleged to have conspired to replace blood samples to shield the minors involved. Despite spending 18 months in jail, the bail grant has been widely criticized, culminating in a review by the Juvenile Justice Board and heightened public unrest.
