Rashmi Kamal, an accomplished 2006-batch IAS officer from the West Bengal cadre, has been appointed as the Director of Census Operations and Director of Citizen Registration for West Bengal. This appointment was made according to a government notification released on Wednesday.
Kamal's term will span three years starting January 14, or until further orders as part of a central deputation under the Central Staffing Scheme. Her headquarters are located in Kolkata.
The Census 2027, orchestrated by the Registrar General of India, will commence with the Houselisting Operations phase on April 1. During this period, essential data related to housing conditions, assets, and amenities will be collected. It will be followed by the Population Enumeration phase, projected to take place in February next year, focusing on demographic, socio-economic, and cultural details of individuals.
