Local officials in Los Angeles are calling for Casey Wasserman to step down as the LA2028 Olympics chief, citing past communications with Ghislaine Maxwell, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.
Recently released documents linked to the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein revealed emails between Wasserman and Maxwell dating back to 2003. Though Wasserman has denied any personal relationship with Epstein, he apologized for his ties with Maxwell, noting their connection predated revelations of her and Epstein's criminal activities.
Among those demanding Wasserman's resignation are Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn, State Senator Lena Gonzalez, and three city council members. International Olympic Committee President Kirsty Coventry stated that the IOC does not control the leadership structure of the LA Games organizing committee, whilst the U.S. Justice Department has disclosed extensive records evidencing Epstein's associations with influential individuals across various fields.
