Haryana Farmers Trapped in Debt: Selja Criticizes BJP Policies

Congress general secretary Kumari Selja has vehemently criticized the BJP-led Haryana government's agricultural policies, alleging they are leading farmers into a debt trap. According to Selja, the average debt per farming family has exceeded Rs 1.83 lakh, with total outstanding loans hitting Rs 60,816 crore.

Selja, the Congress MP from Sirsa, claims that rising input costs, insufficient MSP benefits, and inadequate compensation during natural disasters have exacerbated the plight of farmers. This, combined with high vulnerability of landless farmers, has transformed agriculture from a profitable sector to a distressing one.

The Congress leader has demanded immediate measures, including a comprehensive farm debt relief plan, guaranteed MSP, and special provisions for small and landless farmers. She has also penned a letter to the Haryana chief minister regarding discrepancies in official records of 'johad' lands, recommending a fresh survey to resolve land use issues.
