Escalation in Gaza: Airstrikes and Ceasefire Violations
Israel launched airstrikes in Gaza, killing 11 Palestinians, in response to Hamas's ceasefire violations. The strikes targeted Islamic Jihad leaders in Gaza City. Israel and Hamas exchanged accusations over the ceasefire breaches. This comes ahead of Trump's Board of Peace meeting aimed at Gaza's reconstruction.
On Sunday, Israel launched airstrikes across the Gaza Strip, resulting in the deaths of at least 11 Palestinians, according to Palestinian officials. This move by Israel was in response to what it described as Hamas's violations of a recent ceasefire deal. A notable target was the tent encampment housing displaced families, where four people perished due to Israeli strikes.
In the Tel Al-Hawa neighborhood in Gaza City, airstrikes aimed at a commander of the Islamic Jihad group, a Hamas ally. Hazem Qassem, a Hamas spokesperson, accused Israel of a 'massacre' against displaced Palestinians, describing it as a serious breach of the ceasefire agreement just days before the inaugural meeting of President Donald Trump's Board of Peace.
An Israeli official defended the precision of the strikes, insisting they adhered to international law, while accusing Hamas of consistent ceasefire violations. As Israel continues its operations, Trump is set to announce plans for Gaza's reconstruction during the upcoming peace talks in Washington.
