A constable stationed at Sandipan Ghat police station has been suspended over serious allegations of extortion and smuggling, according to a high-ranking official on Thursday.

The suspension of Constable Ashish Kushwaha followed a departmental probe into claims that he provided protection to criminals, divulged confidential details, and engaged in illicit money collection and smuggling at the police station level, Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar announced.

Circle Officer (Chayal) Abhishek Singh conducted the inquiry and submitted his findings on February 18, which disclosed Kushwaha's previous posting at Kokhraj police station had exposed his connections with criminal elements. The inquiry also uncovered his involvement in illegal extortion and smuggling, highlighting significant indiscipline within the police force. As a result, Kushwaha was suspended late Wednesday and instructed not to leave the headquarters without explicit permission.
