Escalating Tensions: Pakistan's Strikes in Afghanistan Amid Mediation Efforts

Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan heightened significantly on Friday as Pakistan launched an airstrike against a private airline's fuel depot near Afghanistan's Kandahar airport, according to a Taliban statement. This development marks a notable escalation in the ongoing conflict between the neighboring countries, despite recent mediation attempts by China.

Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid reported that the attacked company, Kam Air, supplies fuel to both civilian and United Nations operations. The assault in Kandahar was followed by bombings in other regions, including the Afghan capital Kabul, allegedly resulting in civilian casualties. Mujahid asserted that these actions from Pakistan would not go unanswered.

While Pakistani security sources detailed strikes on militant hideouts, Afghanistan's defense ministry confirmed retaliatory drone strikes on a Pakistani military base in Kohat. Meanwhile, efforts by Chinese mediators to broker peace appear fragile as cross-border militancy accusations continue to strain relations between the former allies.
