Escalating Tensions: Israeli Airstrikes Intensify in Beirut
An Israeli airstrike hit Beirut's Bachoura neighborhood amid rising tensions. The strike was part of a series targeting Hezbollah, intensifying Israel's response to Hezbollah's March 2 attack. Earlier strikes resulted in 20 fatalities, further entangling Lebanon in the Middle East conflict and displacing over 800,000 people.
An Israeli airstrike struck Beirut's Bachoura neighborhood on Wednesday, following warnings for residents to evacuate, as observed by a Reuters witness. The attack registered a loud explosion in the vicinity.
This incident marks part of a broader escalation by Israel, targeting various Lebanese regions, including strikes on the capital, as well as southern and eastern Lebanon. The Lebanese health ministry confirmed earlier Israeli assaults killed six and wounded twenty-four. Additionally, fourteen more fatalities occurred in subsequent southern and eastern strikes.
The Israeli military stated its operations specifically target Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. This operation deepens Lebanon's involvement in Middle Eastern conflicts, triggered by Hezbollah's March 2 attack on Israel, intended as retaliation for Iran's supreme leader's death. In response, Israel's campaign has resulted in over 800 Lebanese deaths and displaced more than 800,000.
