In a major infrastructure push for Uttar Pradesh, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the construction of a 4-lane access-controlled NH-927 corridor from Barabanki to Bahraich, with an investment of ₹6,969 crore under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM).

The 101.5 km project is set to transform regional mobility, strengthen cross-border trade with Nepal, and significantly reduce travel time along the Lucknow–Rupaidiha corridor.

Faster, Safer Travel with Modern Highway Design

The upgraded highway aims to resolve long-standing issues such as:

  • Sharp curves and poor road geometry

  • Heavy congestion in urban stretches

  • Safety risks in built-up areas

Designed as an access-controlled corridor with continuous service roads, the project will:

  • Reduce travel time to around one hour

  • Improve road safety standards

  • Lower fuel consumption and vehicle operating costs

  • Increase average travel speeds

Nearly 48.28 km of bypasses will divert traffic away from densely populated areas, easing congestion in towns along the route.

Strategic Link to Nepal and Key Trade Routes

A key highlight of the project is its role in enhancing India–Nepal connectivity.

Once completed, NH-927 will:

  • Provide seamless access to the Rupaidiha Land Port near the Nepalganj border

  • Strengthen cross-border trade and transit flows

  • Facilitate faster movement of goods and passengers

The corridor is expected to emerge as a critical trade and logistics artery in northern India.

Multi-Modal Connectivity Boost

The highway is designed to integrate with major transport and economic hubs, improving multimodal logistics.

It will connect:

Economic Nodes:

  • 1 Special Economic Zone (SEZ)

  • 2 Mega Food Parks

Transport Infrastructure:

  • Airports: Lucknow and Shravasti

  • Railway stations across Barabanki, Burhwal, Jarwal, Bahraich and others

Road Networks:

  • National Highways: NH-27, NH-330B, NH-730

  • State Highways: SH-13, SH-30B

Additionally, it links 2 aspirational districts, enhancing development in underserved regions.

Driving Regional Growth and Investment

The project is expected to unlock economic potential across eastern Uttar Pradesh by:

  • Boosting agriculture trade and food processing

  • Supporting tourism development

  • Attracting regional investments

  • Improving access to remote districts like Bahraich and Shravasti

It aligns with the government’s PM GatiShakti vision of integrated infrastructure planning.

Massive Employment Generation

Construction and related activities are projected to generate substantial employment:

  • 36.54 lakh person-days (direct jobs)

  • 43.04 lakh person-days (indirect jobs)

This is expected to provide a significant boost to local economies during the project lifecycle.

Rising Traffic Demand Justifies Expansion

Traffic projections indicate strong future demand:

  • 28,557 PCUs (Package 1)

  • 21,270 PCUs (Package 2) by FY 2027–28

The upgrade is therefore critical to accommodating growing passenger and freight movement in the region.

Project Snapshot

  • Length: 101.515 km

  • Total Cost: ₹6,969.04 crore

  • Civil Cost: ₹3,485.49 crore

  • Land Acquisition: ₹1,574.85 crore

  • Execution Mode: Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM)

A Key Step in Northern India’s Infrastructure Expansion

The NH-927 project represents a strategic investment in connectivity, trade, and regional development, positioning Uttar Pradesh as a stronger logistics and economic hub.

By linking key districts to national and international trade routes, the corridor is expected to play a pivotal role in driving inclusive growth and improving quality of life across the region.
