In a significant diplomatic appointment, Vikram Doraiswami has been named India's new ambassador to China amidst ongoing efforts to repair strained relations between the two nations. This move follows the prolonged military standoff in eastern Ladakh, which severely affected diplomatic ties.

Doraiswami, a seasoned diplomat from the 1992-batch of the Indian Foreign Service, is currently serving as the Indian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. He will succeed Pradeep Kumar Rawat as the newest envoy to China, as confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs.

Bringing a wealth of experience, Doraiswami has previously held key positions, including roles at the Indian missions in the United States, South Korea, and Bangladesh. His expertise in Chinese affairs, bolstered by his earlier postings in Hong Kong and Beijing, positions him well for this crucial assignment.
