Israel reopened the Rafah crossing with Egypt on Thursday, permitting a small group of injured Palestinians to leave for medical treatment after Israeli strikes reportedly resulted in the deaths of several people in Gaza.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society stated that the crossing has been reopened to allow medical evacuation for eight Palestinians wounded in ongoing skirmishes during the present conflict and 17 of their family members to enter Egypt.
The situation at the border appears linked to diplomatic efforts by U.S. envoys to ease tensions as the fragile ceasefire continues to be strained by recent U.S. and Israel activities targeting Iran, exacerbating conflict in the region.
