Odisha Police, in collaboration with central forces, has launched a major operation to apprehend the notorious Maoist leader Sukru, who carries a reward of Rs 55 lakh on his head. The operation follows tips of his whereabouts in a dense forest in a tri-border area involving Kandhamal, Rayagada, and Kalahandi districts.
DGP Y B Khurania confidently stated that the forces are making incremental advancements in the forested region. Sukru has successfully evaded capture since January using various tactics, but authorities remain persistent, employing drones and other tech tools in their pursuit.
Sukru, aged 49 and hailing from Malkangiri district, oversees a small group of Maoists and has been a significant obstacle to potential surrenders. Under pressure from family and ongoing operations, he is reportedly considering surrender, though his associates remain a deterrent.
